The Qatari Riyal (QAR) is the currency of Qatar. It is subdivided into 100 dirhams. Up until 1966, Qatar used the Indian Rupee as its local currency. Since 1980, it has been fixed to the US Dollar.
Whilst there are no restrictions moving money into or out of Qatar, there are some Banks that will not send international payments in Qatari Riyal. They will insist upon converting Qatari Riyal locally into another currency, such as US Dollars, before making an international transfer. This is an expensive option.
